Indian Guru Gives Hug Therapy

BOSTON -- People around the world flock to "Amma," the Indian woman known as the "Hugging Saint."

She is believed to have hugged more than 25 million people, including several during her Massachusetts visit Wednesday, reported WCVB-TV in Boston.

It is what Amma does for hours -- takes people in her arms and gives them an intense hug. Recipients swear she changes their lives.

"You could feel the vibration. She was hugging you for half a minute or so, maybe even a minute, I would say," said Indra Jethra, of Burlington, Mass.

"It is the eternal bliss you feel. Total peace in your mind and you get eternal bliss," said Meena Motwane, also of Burlington.

Marie Kirchberger came for the first time last year and said she had to return.

"I came back because it's a very powerful feeling," Kirchberger said. "It's a sensation that's lacking in our culture. It's the power of love. The power of a mother's love."
