Woman allegedly paid man $1,000 to beat her

An Oregon woman who claimed she was kidnapped, beaten, and raped paid a family friend $1,000 to assault her and concocted the crime story to pull at the heartstrings of her significant other, police said.

"She just used it as a ploy to make her significant other feel sorry for her," Sgt. George Kral said, noting the pair had been together several years before their break-up last month.

He said the ploy initially worked, but the Toledo man who assaulted Rochelle Bell came forward when he learned she said she had been sexually assaulted.
